Pombal ((:põˈbaɫ)) is a city and a municipality in Leiria District in the sub region Pinhal Litoral in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 55,217,〔(Instituto Nacional de Estatística )〕 in an area of 626.00 km².〔(Direção-Geral do Território )〕 The population of the city of Pombal proper is about 18,000 inhabitants. The municipality is served by a main railway station. The present Mayor is Luís Diogo de Paiva Morão Alves Mateus, elected by the Social Democratic Party.
